Send us Feedback!
Because of the 4th of July
holiday, we are sending this issue of Contours on Monday as
opposed to the usual Wednesdays. We think this might be a good
permanent change...do you? Let us know whether you prefer
Mondays or Wednesdays for Contours and why by sending a new email to

1. Trail Mix - Summer Family Fun
This summer, you can get the whole family outside! Kids from age
2 to 82 can have a blast with a simple hike or, if they are
ready for the next level, you can take the entire gang out on a
camping or backpacking trip. You can make it as simple and
low-impact as you wish.
According to
Gorp, an online outdoor resource,
the key to any
outdoor activity is planning ahead and being prepared.
Anyone can get outside if they are
willing to learn a few new things.
If the best way to learn is by doing, then we have plenty of
beginner-level trips to help you get more comfortable with being
outside. If you are still not sure about getting outside
by yourself with your kids, try one of our many Family-Friendly
activities. This week's Activity Spotlight (below)
features some great trips!
2. Venture Outdoors Activity Spotlight
Saturday, July 7 - Sunday, July 8
Family Fun Overnight on Laurel Ridge
Join VO for a very easy, kid friendly backpack along the LHHT.
Parents, we’ll show you that getting out on the trail with kids
isn’t as intimidating as you might think, and a heck of a lot
cheaper than a hotel! Kids, we’ll have a blast exploring the
rocks and trails and hidden treasures of the ridge, and we’ll
all enjoy a night under the stars! Family pricing available.
9:00 AM - 9:00 AM

$30.00 non-member
Saturday, July 7

of the trail. Late Afternoon - Ice cream or burgers at the local
Dairy Queen (not included in price). Family Prices Available.

We will meet at the North Park Boat House and start off with a
paddle around the lake looking for wildlife. After the paddle we
will head back to the boat house for a picnic style summer salad
feast prepared by Mary Brenholts.

4. Member's Day - Thanks to
all for a Fun Day
This past Member's Day at the North
Park Boathouse was a day full of great weather, excellent food,
live music, and activities.
We had over 153 people attend the activities and around 60 folks
listened as County Parks Director Andrew Baechle discussed the
future of North Park Late .
Thanks to all those who made this event possible, especially our
dedicated volunteers, generous sponsors, Kayak Pittsburgh staff
and the VO Programming team.
