Last year, Pittsburgh was featured in National Geographic Adventure magazine as one of the top urban destinations for outdoor recreation.  The prestigious outdoor magazine's annual "Where to Live and Play" story is returning in the September issue.  This issue will present "50 towns across the United States that offer superior outdoors access, work opportunities, and cultural events."  Sound like a familiar profile?

Now is the time to bring out your bragging rights!  E-mail adventure.ngs.org to boast about our region's excellent outdoor amenities.  Selected stories will appear in the September issue as well as on the Adventure magazine website.

4. NEW Bi-weekly Contours Photo Contest
Do you like to take photographs? We need your help!
Venture Outdoors puts out print and electronic publications regularly throughout the year.  We would like to feature quality photos that depict folks having a good time on our trips.  If you are registered for one of our activities, why not take your camera along to capture a few pictures?

Here's how this will work: In each edition of Contours, we will include a few of our favorite, season-appropriate photos submitted of the previous week's activities (as space allows).  All submitted photos will be kept in our photo archives.  The benefits: We get a cadre of recent photographs to use in our triennial Adventure Times as well as the website, other newsletters and news articles.  You get your name credited to your photo with each use, as well as the satisfaction of helping out your friendly local non-profit.

Submission guidelines:
*Photos must be high resolution (180dpi - 300dpi OR at least 1-2 MB in size), and sent as a JPG.
*Only 5 submissions per week allowed per person (no inbox overload!)
*Photos MUST NOT: be blurry, cut off people's heads, show people doing dangerous or stupid actions or be unrelated to VO.
*Photos MUST: include lots of smiles, variety and action shots.
Please send digital photos by email to Tricia or on a burned CD to our office: ATTN: Tricia Chicka, Venture Outdoors, 304 Forbes Avenue, 2nd Floor, Pittsburgh, PA 15222.  We can only accept digital format; scanned prints are acceptable.  Contact Tricia if you have any questions.
Next Contours photo deadline: Wednesday, August 8.
