Great Outdoors Week is
still going on!
Great Outdoors Week is from May 18 to
May 27
There is still plenty to do outside
during Great Outdoors Week. GOW is a joint marketing
campaign and collaboration of the outdoor organizations in the
region to promote the outdoor amenities in Pittsburgh and
southwestern PA. Find out more about Great Outdoors Week
by visiting the website at
www.greatoutdoorsweek.org.
National Bike to Work Day (May 18th), the Venture Outdoors
Festival (May 19th) and Pedal Pittsburgh (May 20th) were only
the beginning. Get out there and experience Pittsburgh's
outdoor scene!

Sean Brady of VO waits for the next live weather spot with Erin Kienzle of WTAE
and Gene Slevinski of the Pittsburgh National Skate Patrol
an hour before the VO Festival opened.
2. VO Festival...Thanks!
Thanks to all who made
it out this past Saturday for the
2007 Venture Outdoors Festival! We hope the day
inspired you to take advantage of the region's abundance of
outdoor amenities for the rest of the year! Thanks
to the exhibitors, activity sponsors, and especially to our dedicated volunteers, without whom, none of
our work would be possible.

Venture Outdoors Activity Spotlight
Sunday, May 27
Rock Climbing
After a short hike over easy terrain, we will learn about
equipment, safety, how to belay, and some of the necessary
knots. Afterwards, we’ll do some climbing and hopefully get in
some rappelling! A variety of climbs will be set up so that even
inexperienced participants (or even those who are afraid of
heights) can experience success. In this one-day class, all
instruction and equipment is provided for you, including the
climbing shoes.
Laurel Highlands
9:30 AM - 4:00 PM
$45.00 member, $55.00 non-member
Thursday, May 31
Full Moon Paddle
The full moon is out and the water is fine! Join us as we follow
the full moon through the evening quiet and sights of the
Allegheny River. The shimmering skyline provides a humble
foreground for the celestial bodies above. After basic
instruction and tips on technique, you'll find yourself enjoying
the ease of paddling a sea kayak on the smooth Allegheny River.

with mouth watering honeydew, cantaloupe and watermelon, along

is champagne without chocolate? Minimum age 21.
