VO Opens New Program Office

Venture Outdoors has expanded our office space from the corner of Wood Street and Forbes Avenue to an adjacent space - 306 Forbes Avenue.

We christened the property at our Light-Up Night celebration and it has officially begun to play its part in the effort to revitalize Downtown. As Downtown transforms into a lively and vibrant district, even in the evening hours, Venture Outdoors will have its place along the Forbes corridor as well as on the rivers and on the trails. The new office space is more visible to passers-by. People passing the new space have already noticed its existence, saying they are “glad Venture Outdoors is coming Downtown,” even though the organization has occupied that corner of the street since its conception six years ago.

Public and private programming departments will be moving into the new space. This will make it more convenient for those Downtown to have access to a representative of the organization and regional outdoor recreation information. Venture Outdoors is now, and will continue to be, Downtown’s center for information on hiking and biking trails, area parks, paddling outlets and more.

Stop on by and check out our new promotions...

Soup of the Month Hike
Join us for a chilly hike exploring beautiful Schenley Park. After the hike, we will warm up with a delicious surprise soup! Mary Brenholts will prepare two of her scrumptious soups, one for the herbivores and one for the carnivores, so there will be something for everyone!

Snowshoeing Intro & Hike
If there's snow, we’ll seek out the deep stuff and experience the forest at its most beautiful! If the snow has not yet arrived, we'll still try on the snowshoes and take them for a spin through the grass, getting the feel for what it's like to make even Bigfoot jealous! Then we'll head into the park for a hike and have lunch along the trail. This park provides incredible views of the Allegheny River far below, especially in winter when the trees have shed their leaves.
Harrison Hills Park
10:00 AM - 1:00 PM
$15.00 member,$25.00 non-member

Our annual MLK Day in the Park will be held at Schenley Park on Monday, January 21, 2008, and we certainly need some help there for a variety of tasks. Click here to register for or inquire about MLK Day in the Park.

The Banff Mountain Film Festival is scheduled for April 4 and 5, 2008 at the Carnegie Music Hall in Homestead. With this venue change, we will have a greater need for volunteers to do things like hand out programs, usher guests to their seats, etc. Click here to register for or inquire about the Banff Mountain Film Festival.

The annual Venture Outdoors Festival will be held May 17, 2008, at Washington’s Landing. As you may already know, we need tons of help in order for this event to be a success. There are a huge number of tasks to be done at this festival that range from physical labor to guest relations. To inquire about or register for the 2008 Venture Outdoors Festival, click here.
