Venture
Outdoors is looking for volunteers to
collect and submit city, county, or state
park information for the enhancements to the
Great Outdoors Guide. Through the winter
months we will be updating the current
content of the website with trail maps,
detailed trail descriptions, new mapping
tools, and images. This project is a huge
undertaking to create a central resource for
outdoor recreation in Southwestern PA.
VO will be holding a photo competition
for the best volunteer entries in December.

Turkey Soup Hike
Looking to get a little fresh air
after the holiday? Join us for a great hike
through the local forests just before they
go to sleep for the winter. After the hike
we'll finish up with some hearty turkey
soup. You will learn and taste a couple
homemade recipes prepared by Mary Brenholts
that are great for dressing up your leftover
turkey.

Holiday Cookie Exchange Hike
Want to learn or share some holiday cookie
recipes? Well, here's you chance. We will
take a short hike through Frick Park on a
cool winter day, and during the hike, we
will sample and share holiday cookies. A
baker from the East End Food Co-op will be
present to discuss the ins and outs of
holiday cookie baking. This is great way to
get outside in the winter for some exercise
and holiday fun. Be sure to write down your
cookie recipes for exchange after the hike!

The 2008 Winter
Members’ Party will be held at Wilderness
Voyageurs in Ohiopyle. It will be great fun
for all, and is not an event you want to
miss! We’ll have hiking, snowshoeing and
cross-country skiing (weather permitting),
as well as our annual cook-off, snow
creature building (weather permitting) and a
number of great activities for kids and
adults alike. This is a members-only event,
but guests of members (regardless of their
status with Venture Outdoors) are more than
welcome!
