Become a Volunteer Trip Leader

Get Knowledge  |  Get Connected  |  Lead

Enhance your leadership skills and become a Venture Outdoors Volunteer Trip Leader.   Venture Outdoors is always looking for enthusiastic and knowledgeable people who are willing and able to lead trips, and we value these volunteers very highly.   Our 103 volunteer Trip Leaders make our public programming possible, with over 3,200 volunteer hours in 2007.

The following opportunities are open to anyone and everyone:
1. Trip Leaders
Venture Outdoors' trip leaders LOVE the outdoors.  Whether it's hiking, biking, paddling or possessing a good understanding of natural history, our trip leaders offer interesting information and also valuable advice to participants.  Our trip leaders have the ability and desire to lead, motivate, and manage groups.

2. Assistant Trip Leaders
As an assistant trip leader, you have the perfect opportunity to get your feet wet leading VO activities.  Meet people, learn how VO trip leaders do what they do, and understand the anatomy of a Venture Outdoors trip.

Venture Outdoors actively supports and trains its leaders.

You can be a trip leader if you have:
• Experience in hiking, biking, walking, fishing, camping or any outdoor activity,
• The ability to interact with groups, or
• A commitment to the outdoors.

If you are interested in becoming a trip leader contact Rob Walters: rwalters@ventureoutdoors.org

Save the Date - VO Fest

VO Fest is 90 Days  Away!

The Venture Outdoors Festival is a showcase of outdoor recreation in the region.   We are happy to announce our return to Washington's Landing, where the Festival began in 2001.  This location provides a beautiful setting, including both the upper end of the island and also the Millvale Riverfront Park.  Free water taxi transportation will be provided across the back channel of the Allegheny to Washington's Landing.

The Festival will feature the same outdoor adventures as it has in the past: kayaking, fishing, rock climbing, adventure racing, cycling, and even better food and beverages than before.

2007's Venture Outdoors Festival attracted nearly 8,000 attendees, with over 100 exhibitors!

Volunteers are also needed for the Festival--if you are interested in volunteering, please contact Rebecca Malena.

The Allegheny County Parks Action Plan consists of a concise methodology to transform and enhance recreational opportunities at the County's nine regional parks. The American Institute for Leisure Resources conducted a study of the Allegheny County Park System in the summer of 2007. The result of their study defines system-wide revenue recommendations as well as individual park recommendations for each of the nine regional parks.
