VO Celebrates
Women's History Month |
|
On Sunday, March 9th, join Venture
Outdoors as we celebrate Women's History
Month with a tour of the historical
Squirrel Hill and Oakland neighborhoods.
On this easy walk, we'll visit notable
landmarks and places off the beaten path
while sharing intriguing stories about the
lives of legendary Pittsburgh women.
You'll learn about Lillian Russell,
"America's Queen of Comic Opera," who
shocked audiences in the early 1900s by
dressing in men's clothes and smoking
cigarettes, as well as Mary Croghan
Schenley, for whom Schenley Park is named,
among others.

historical women of Pittsburgh visit:

East End Micro Brewery Hike
Starting with a hike
through Frick Park, we'll head over to
Pittsburgh’s East End Brewing Company. Owner
Scott Smith will be on hand to share the
intricacies of craft brewing, a private tour
of the brewery, and a tasting of his latest
brews. As a special bonus of this outing,
you take home a half-gallon “Growler” of
fresh beer straight from the source! Minimum
age 21.
Location: Frick Park, East End Brewery
Time: 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM
Cost: $20.00 member, $35.00 non-member |
Hot Tea Tasting Hike
Are you ready for a new twist on afternoon
tea? Tea has been known through the
centuries for its soothing properties,
health benefits and delicious taste. We’ll
enjoy a hike in scenic Grandview Park
followed by a sampling of several types of
tea including fruit infused, black, white,
red, green maté and more. You’ll never look
at tea time the same way again!
Location: Grandview Park
Time: 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM
Cost: $12.00 member, $818.00 non-member |
Match the Hatch: Fishing the Midge
Why would a
trout that big eat a fly that small? The
midge is oftentimes the only answer in late
winter and early spring. But what fly do I
use? This class will answer that often-asked
question - the “Whats“ and “Whens” of the
late winter hatches on the streams. Of
course, a fly-fishing experience wouldn't be
complete without time on the stream, so
bring your waders! Instructed by Dale and
Cyndi Kotowski, of Chestnut Ridge Trout
Unlimited.
Location: Ohiopyle State Park
Time: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Cost: $60.00 member, $80.00 non-member |

The Allegheny County Parks Action Plan
consists of a concise methodology to
transform and enhance recreational
opportunities at the County's nine regional
parks. The American Institute for Leisure
Resources conducted a study of the Allegheny
County Park System in the summer of 2007.
The result of their study defines
system-wide revenue recommendations as well
as individual park recommendations for each
of the nine regional parks.
