Here is the go-to checklist for a Venture Outdoors backpacking trip. Use these for your next adventure with us or to help plan a trip for your family and friends.

The Venture Outdoors Essentials
  • Signed Assumption of Risk Form (one for each participant)
  • Water (two liters in a hydration pack or water bottles)
  • Backpack
  • Snacks/energy bars
  • Rain gear (jacket and pants)
  • Non-cotton layers (hiking pants, shirts, socks and jacket, extra clothes; jeans are not recommended)
  • Hiking boots (already broken in)
  • Tent or tarp (including stakes and guylines)
  • Sleeping bag, ground pad (If you’re sleeping under the stars, also a ground cloth or tarp.)
  • Food (three meals per day, plus snacks/energy bars)
  • Camp stove, fuel, cook kit, and gloves if cooking; mug and knife
  • Emergency kit (flashlight, whistle, matches, lighter, rain gear, pack cover or large plastic trash bag, reflective blanket, personal first aid kit, etc.)
  • Toiletry kit (including toilet paper and small shovel)
    Medications (please tell Trip Leader about any prescription medications)
    Bear bag or plastic bag and rope (for hanging your food at night)
