****MEDIA ADVISORY****
NEW FALL SCHEDULE RELEASED
Venture Outdoors offers new programming, unique experiences

(Pittsburgh, PA – August 15, 2007) Some new and exciting trips and programs are part of the Venture Outdoors fall schedule as the organization tests the waters with different sorts of entertainment for its participants.

The ever-popular specialty hikes and paddles with food and drink are continuing throughout the season but with a new flavor and flare. Events include: Oktoberfest Hike, Witch’s Brew Tasting Hike, Turkey Soup hike, Gourmet Burger Paddle, Pancake Hike, Curry Hike and more. A Steelers Withdrawal Hike will also be essential for the city’s dedicated fans when there is no game to watch.

Paddling becomes more of a thrill when it is a Full Moon Paddle or a Werewolf Paddle. Future fishing adventures include a Family Fishing Derby and Canoe Fishing on the “Yough.”

Due to a demand from faithful members and active participants, an Advanced Program Series has now been added and includes long distance hikes, backpacking, canoe camping, paddling and more.

Outdoor Leadership and Wellness are important aspects of the organization, and there are training programs for those interested. New biking programs include a Haunted House Bike Ride, a Fall Foliage Pedal and Paddle, a Green Pittsburgh Biking Excursion and more.

A new Trail Town Series will allow participants to take full advantage of the fall scenery and atmosphere through the Music in the Mountains Bike Ride, a Trail Town Art Tour, a Pumpkin Fest Bike Excursion and more.

Even with the new additions, Venture Outdoors still has room for its ‘old’ and loved programs such as Day Treks, Tyke Hikes, Beer Hikes, TriAnglers, Wednesday Wakeup Paddles, etc. Participants look forward to experiencing both the new and the old activities offered by the organization throughout the next few months.

A list of the new programs is listed below. To register for any of the events, those interested need only call the Venture Outdoors office at 412.255.0564. A complete listing of programs for the season is available at www.ventureoutdoors.org.

Venture Outdoors, a non-profit organization, seeks to transform the Pittsburgh region into a place where the outdoors is an integral part of our culture, identity and lifestyle. Venture Outdoors does this by increasing participation in outdoor recreational activity. This in turn creates a sense of community among participants, an increased awareness of the region’s excellent quality of life, and a better understanding of and deeper appreciation for the environment and wilderness among the residents of and visitors to western Pennsylvania.
