Venture Outdoors Again

Calling all people ages 50 and up—join us outside! Venture Outdoors has been funded by the Jewish Healthcare Foundation to provide beginner-friendly outdoor experiences to individuals who would like to become more active. The weekly outings include 1.5 – 2 hour walks and bike rides that are held in Frick Park and South Park.

Participants ages 50 and up can attend for FREE. Call the Venture Outdoors office at 412-255-0564 ext. 0 or fill out this form to receive a promotion code to register for these outings free of charge. The following outings are part of the Venture Outdoors Again program. To register, click the dates listed under the outing description and follow the prompts. Beginner Bike Ride
Re-learn the basics of bicycling with this introductory outing. We’ll spend the first half hour covering tips, answering questions, and warming up for a successful bike trip. Afterward, we’ll ride up to 3 miles as a group along a flat trail with occasional stops. Bikes will be provided at no aditional cost, but feel free to bring your own.

Storytelling Stroll
Everyone has a story to tell: a happy memory, a sad circumstance, or a harrowing feat. Join David Bennett and a group of outdoor enthusiasts for a relaxing stroll through the woods with each stop providing a chance for a member of the group to share a story based on the outing’s theme.

Walk with a Doc
Get healthy while being healthy! We’ll join local specialists for a relaxing 1.5 mile walk along flat terrain that gets our bodies moving and stimulates our minds. At stops along the trail, the doctors will share information with the group on managing one’s health while staying active and answer individual questions as we walk.

Qigong Walk
Join Don Drolet, owner and lead instructor of Standing Crane LLC, for an experience that combines the slow and continuous movements of Qigong with a leisurely, yet mindfully centered 1.5 mile walk along rolling terrain through the beauty of Frick Park. Qigong is a meditative practice that combines slow flowing movements with breathing and is an older cousin to Tai Chi.

Budding Naturalist Walk
Learn the signs of the seasons as we explore the beautiful park grounds. We’ll join nature-enthusiasts for a relaxing 2-mile walk along relatively flat terrain that focuses on the plant and animal life that abound.

Art in the Park Walk

The outdoors is a wonderful setting to inspire creativity. Join a local art enthusiast for a short walk through the park. We’ll go to a nearby shelter and learn some tips for doing a specific style of art, and then we’ll take the time to be creative ourselves.

Venture Outdoors Again: Focus Group Meeting
Share your experience attending outdoor outings and what you did and didn’t appreciate about the experience. Venture Outdoors has been offering weekly programming geared toward people ages 50 and up and wants to share its learning and gain feedback. Venture Outdoors Again programs are weekly opportunities to engage people ages 50 and up in beginner-friendly, social, and educational outdoor experiences. Light refreshments will be served.
