Boston History Hike

Take a 3-4 mile hike in and around little Boston, a lesser-known village along the Youghiogheny River. Join living historians Ed Falvo and John McNulty as they weave stories of the landscape's past into our hiking route. The outing includes a visit to the Elizabeth Township Historical Society's archive room and a log cabin circa 1794.

    1. Briefly tell us about your background: where did you grow up, where did you go to school, and what brought you to Venture Outdoors?

    I grew up in Evans City, Pennsylvania just 40 minutes north of the city and went to school at the University of Pittsburgh. I got a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with a focus in Marketing.

  • The Cowboy of Riverview Park, Moses Carper

    Moses Carper was known by many as the “Cowboy of Riverview Park” but he was so much more. His signature cowboy hat, boots and chaps were unforgettable, but his passion to better his community and the people around him is what made him a legend. He was a selfless, caring, and passionate person who truly cared about bettering the lives of those around him. Moses was the founder of the nonprofit known as Children Youth (ChiYou) Corral in the Northside. ChiYou Corral provides inner-city kids with opportunities to experience a more rural lifestyle and encourages stewardship through equestrian activities.

    “Why do I volunteer for Venture Outdoors? Mostly for my eight-year-old daughter. I want Mollie to know that women can be bold and adventurous and just as cool and daring as men. We can hike and kayak and swim and geocache.

    I grew up in Dayton, Ohio and received my Bachelor of Science degree in Earth Sciences with a concentration in Geography & Mineralogy from Montana State University in 2005. I have been with Venture Outdoors for 5+ years and currently serve as our Kayak Pittsburgh Director.
