  • The Beauty of Hiking

    July 25, 2017

    By: Chloe Seletz, Communications Intern

When I am asked what my dream vacation would be, it is always a no brainer. Anywhere I can go hiking. I spent a portion of my childhood living in San Francisco which is where I discovered the beauty of hiking. Every Sunday, my family and I took advantage of the amazing trails California has to offer. Even at a young age, I remember the feeling of getting to the top of a mountain and seeing such mesmerizing views.

Over the years, I have had the opportunity to travel and hike in many different places.

  • Art in the Outdoors

    July 18, 2017

    By: Joshua Tenebaum

This past week I spent a bit of time developing and furthering my blog post project and compiling photographs and field recordings to showcase to the Venture Outdoors community. Liz Fager and Jessica Wiegand both approached me about writing a blog post to be featured on the Venture Outdoors website. I began reading the other posts to determine an appropriate topic and voice for my writing; I decided to write about art and the outdoors. A rather broad topic, I specifically chose to speak about why I make art, my process, and my impressions of nature whenever I venture outdoors.

  • TriAnglers Lunchtime Fishing Returns

    July 11, 2017

TriAnglers provides bait and equipment allowing participants to fish at no cost.

When Sean Brady (formerly of Venture Outdoors) and Karen Gainey founded TriAnglers in 2002, their main goal was to reintroduce the health of Pittsburgh’s rivers to residents by delivering a quality fishing experience to anyone. “Fishing is great because it slows you down,” said Karen Gainey.

  • What’s SUP at North Park?

    July 4, 2017

By:  Cheyenne Knight, Assistant Kayak Pittsburgh Supervisor

If you have visited our Kayak Pittsburgh North Park location in the past month or so, you might have noticed a new piece of equipment in the boathouse. It’s white, green, gray, and black, has quite a few straps running across the top, and is shaped like a surf board. You won’t be riding the waves with our latest toy, but you will get to paddle your way around the lake on one of the neatest stand up paddleboards (SUP) we have ever had at Kayak Pittsburgh.

The Outfitter by Body Glove is an 11-foot,

  • New Adventures Ahead for Lora Woodward

    June 27, 2017

Ten years ago today, I was living in Thailand and starting to pack for a long flight back to the U.S. I had spent the past year as a teaching intern and boarding supervisor at an international school outside Chiang Mai and was preparing to return stateside. I had plenty of time to think about the ominous “future” that lay ahead. I wanted to return to Pittsburgh, where I attended college, and be part of the community development efforts that I saw enriching the city. There was a buzz I just had to be part of. After leading a trail building crew at Crater Lake National Park for the Student Conservation Association,
