Stewardship with Tree Pittsburgh
April 24 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
An event every month that begins at 9:00 am on day Fourth of the month, repeating until September 25, 2021
Bike along the Eliza Furnace Trail and plant trees with Tree Pittsburgh.
The Eliza Furnace Trail is a highly used public amenity. Given this trail’s placement between two major highways, the trail suffers from air pollution from high traffic, significant traffic noise, and very little shade from the sun.
This project aims to improve the trail’s character for future generations by planting a dense forest of resilient urban trees in the buffer zones between the trail and the highways, increasing the air quality, reducing the traffic noise, and providing a comfortable experience for trail users to sustain the Eliza Furnace Trail’s status as a regional jewel for generations to come.
Stewards can expect a social experience, complete with social distancing, an opportunity to serve the community, and a scenic, easy paced, bike ride to and from the site, beginning at Southside Riverfront Park and returning to that location. Expect to ride about 3 miles each way.
This program operates on the 4th Saturday of every month, beginning April 24th through September 25th. This program will shift to Sunday of the same weekend in the event of rain.
