Sheila's Early Wake Up Paddle

By: Shelia Stagnitta, Volunteer Trip Leader

Wednesday Wake-Up Paddles. I love them. Except when the alarm clock goes off. At that moment I question my sanity. Why oh why am I dragging myself out of bed at this way-too-early hour? Oh yeah, for the views from the water that you can only get early. I wake up at this godawful time to start my day in the best way imaginable. For that special, peaceful moment. I get to sit in a kayak listening to the waters gently lapping my boat. Others are sitting in rush hour, fighting traffic. Yes, that’s why I get up early! I can’t put on paper the way an early morning kayak outing feels, but I can share some of the special views I’ve seen, so maybe you’ll also come out early one Wednesday morning!

Early in May and later in September it's a little darker. We get to see the lights sparkling off the water.

Look at that pretty city coming into view as we paddle the Ohio.

And, of course, the sunrises! One each morning, always glorious and always different from the last one. So I have to get up for the Wednesday Wake-Up Paddle.
