NEW Downtown Pop-Up

We’re back, baby! Last year we took a long-coming hiatus from launching boats in downtown Pittsburgh due to construction on the Roberto Clemente Bridge. This year we’re back, with a temporary pop-up kayak launch using our mobile fleet of kayaks.

You MUST make reservations in advance. Guided and self-guided kayak trips available, including a 45-minute self-guided lunchtime paddle option.

Next year we’re planning for a bigger and more permanent launch under the Convention Center.

NEW Kayak and Watercraft Options

In addition to our traditional kayaks, SUPs, canoes, and pedalboats – we’ve added a few NEW types of watercrafts to our fleet.

Sit-on-top kayaks are back, and now we have sit-on-top tandems! These kayaks provide easier access for those with limited mobility, plus they have the comfiest seats in our fleet. They’re also great for kayak fishing. So, bring your best friend and some fishing rods. 

Looking for a faster smoother paddle experience? Try one of our new intermediate solo kayaks with advanced handling, an accessory dashboard, and cupholders. 

Want to paddle with the whole family? Try a catamaran! Catamarans are made of two connected canoes. They’re very sturdy and hold up to six people (4 adults and 2 children at max weight of 750/side).

NEW Reservation System

You spoke and we listened! For 2023 Venture Outdoors has partnered with FareHarbor to launch an all-new online rental system. 

This system is loaded with features that are easy to use, seamless, and intuitive. You can expect quicker response when looking up available rentals, faster check in, opportunities to add some sweet merchandise, and more ways to discover activities with Kayak Pittsburgh. 

NEW Private Group Kayak Experiences

Show your employees, customers, or team just how much you appreciate their hard work or business. Great for celebrating birthdays, wedding parties, or family reunions, too. Book a private group of ten or more with our easy-to-use platform. Custom bookings are available at all Kayak Pittsburgh locations.

Private Group Package includes: 2-hour private event with safety talk & gear, self-guided kayaking, and a Venture Outdoors decal for each participant! Programs & discounts available for youth groups. 

New Pricing Structure 

We recognize that times are tough and have intentionally chosen to keep our prices the same since 2019. As we look to the future we need to adapt, or as we say, go with the flow, to continue updating our fleet and supporting the great work of Venture Outdoors.

For the 2023 season Kayak Pittsburgh rental rates will increase by approximately 15%. However, in an effort to simplify we now have just 1 flat rate for rentals, have rounded to full dollars, and are maintaining the standard price of season passes for the 2023 season. 

We’ll continue to provide the highest quality kayak rental experiences with ACA certified staff, updated equipment, a breadth of watercrafts to choose from, and prime paddling locations.
