Urban Foraging Walk: Serviceberries
Join Master Naturalist, Gabrielle Rovegno on a short walk (.5-.75 mi) around the North Shore for an urban foraging tour focusing on serviceberries. This native tree is commonly used in landscaping and boasts delicious fruit! These sweet fruits are about the size of a blueberry and taste like a combination of berries with a hint of almond.
Participants will discuss some ethics and concerns around urban foraging, learn how to identify and gather serviceberries and learn how to identify other common trees along the Three Rivers Heritage Trail. Bring a container for your harvest! Serviceberries are great to eat right off the tree, but can also be used for baking, smoothies, or jellies.
Meeting Location: NW Corner of Mazeroski Way, across from the Right Field entrance to PNC Park. Near McFadden’s Saloon (211 N Shore Dr, Pittsburgh, PA 15212)
