FAQ

What is the cancellation and refund policy?

Cancellation must be given in writing via e-mail to Mandy@ventureoutdoors.org or over the phone at 412-255-0564 x238.
  • If cancellation notice is given at least six weeks prior to the first day of camp: FULL REFUND
  • If cancellation notice if given at least four weeks prior to the first day of camp (but less than six weeks): 50% REFUND
  • NO REFUNDS will be given within four weeks of the first day of camp or after camp has begun.
If a camper does not follow a behavior policy and is suspended or removed from camp, NO REFUND will be issued. Bullying, verbal and physical aggression are not tolerated. Upon registration parents will be prompted to review and agree to our staff’s Behavior Response guidelines to better understand the expectations we have in place to make our camps an enjoyable place for everyone to participate.
In the case of a medical emergency, please contact Mandy@ventureoutdoors.org for refund options.

Do you offer financial assistance?

A limited number of camperships (camp scholarships) may be available for those who need financial assistance. Please complete the application using this link – Venture Outdoors 2023 Camp Scholarship Application. Note that an application does NOT guarantee a campership. After you complete it, someone from the office will contact you if we have the necessary funding to provide this opportunity for your child. If you have further questions, reach out to Mandy@ventureoutdoors.org or 412-255-0564 x238.

Can I switch which program my child is in?

We will happily support any changes in a family’s summer schedule. If there is space available in a camp that you would like to switch your child to, we can do so for a $25 administrative charge. If the camp you are switching to is a higher cost camp, you will be expected to pay the difference; if the camp you are switching to is a lower cost camp, we will refund you the difference.

Please contact Mandy@ventureoutdoors.org to make a change.

Are there enrollment minimums for camp to run?

Yes, there are minimum enrollment capacities in order for camp to run. Venture Outdoors reserves the right to cancel, combine, or alter a camp if the camp registrations do not meet the minimum enrollment capacities before the camp start date. In this instance, we will contact you if you have already registered your child with the option for a full refund or change to another camp that has open slots.

Will you offer aftercare after 4:00pm?

There will be no aftercare available this year.

What happens if I pick up my child late?

Parents should pick their child up from camp between 3:30 – 4:00pm. There will be a late pick up fee of $1.00 per minute per child beginning at 4:01pm.

Can I pick my child up early? What if they have to be late?

We may be able to accommodate, depending on the activities we have planned for the day. Please contact Mandy@ventureoutdoors.org to further discuss your needs.

What accommodations can you make for my child?

We encourage all parents to closely review each camp description to consider if a camp is a good fit for your child.
After registration, you (the parent) will be sent a Camper Wellbeing Paperwork Packet to complete for your child, where you can outline special accommodations and needs. We will do our best to provide accommodations providing it does not change the nature of the event activities. There is a minimum of two weeks notice needed for special accommodation considerations.
Contact Mandy Revak at Mandy@ventureoutdoors.org or 412-255-0564 x238 if you would like to discuss further.

What is your cellphone and electronics policy?

We do not allow campers to use cell phones during camp time. Campers will be instructed to keep their cell phone in their backpack during camp time. If a camper is still using their cell phone after a warning from a staff member, the staff member will hold onto the cell phone for the remainder of the day and return it to a parent during pick up time.

We do not allow campers to use handheld electronics during camp time. Campers will be asked to not bring devices (iPads, laptops, Nintendo Switch, etc.) to camp. If they are brought to camp, campers will be instructed to keep their electronic devices in their backpack during camp time. If a camper is still using electronics after a warning from a staff member, the staff member will hold onto the device for the remainder of the day and return it to a parent during pick up time.

What happens if we have bad weather?

Camp is NOT typically canceled due to inclement weather. Inclement weather or water flow may affect which recreational activities your camper will participate during the week. We take weather and camper safety seriously, revising our activity schedule and seeking shelter when needed. All locations have a safety shelter for inclement weather. During periods of inclement weather, campers will participate in indoor activities, like teambuilding, crafts, games and more.

What is your COVID-19 policy?

Participants are advised to follow CDC COVID-19 guidelines and to use the CDC isolation and exposure calculator to determine if quarantine is necessary after exposure. In the case of a COVID-19 or medical emergency, please contact us for refund options.

Your camper should come prepared with:
1. Lunch
2. Snacks
