The Mobile Fleet

Venture Outdoors has been removing barriers and creating access to the outdoors for over 23 years. We are perhaps best known for answering “rent kayaks near me” around Pittsburgh. Access is easy at our hubs at North Park and the new Downtown Dock (boasting Downtown Pittsburgh’s only fully ADA accessible launch).

Did you know there are over 86,000 miles of flowing water in Pennsylvania? That is a lot of water to create access, so where to rent kayaks near me? Roll the mobile fleet!

What is the Mobile Fleet?

The Venture Outdoors Mobile fleet is technically a collection of trailers and vehicles to take paddle craft to other locations. It means so much more though. With it’s compliment of paddles, PFDs, rescue gear and trained on-water trip leaders the mobile fleet can help people access waterways near them.

We are confident there is a waterway near you that can be paddled. On our website we have a map of the launches we have paddled. However we can generally take groups out paddling at any public launch. Find one nationally on the interactive map maintained by Paddling.com.

Locally in Pittsburgh there is an established water trail along the three rivers. It was constructed and is maintained by the local non-profit Friends of the Riverfront. The water trail map is a handy resource and can be found on their website. They have some cool trips, points of reference, and safety info on the map as well.

So what can the Mobile Fleet do?

There is so much to experience out on our waterways. The fleet and trip leaders can take groups exploring in new places, teach the basics of paddling, or support outdoor festivals with kayaking.

The mobile fleet has taken folks to visit Allegheny Islands State Park, the state park only accessible by water. We have taken folks through Locks on the Allegheny River. Instructors have taught folks how to paddle on the Monongahela River and Crooked Creek Lake and looked for signs of pollution along our three rivers with Three Rivers Waterkeeper.

Leaders might take the fleet to go searching for a local legend this summer…watch our outings page to see when that might “drop”…

How can I bring the Mobile Fleet to me?

We are happy to chat with you about brining the mobile fleet to a waterway near you for a group outing, class, or festival pop-up. Visit our group page for more information: https://ventureoutdoors.org/group-experiences/.

Let’s venture outdoors together!
