My name is John, and I am 13 years old. I attend Manchester Academic Charter School, and it’s the greatest school that I’ve ever been to, and I will never leave it until I graduate. When I was new to the middle school here, I was bored of the electives I’ve had, so that’s when I went to Venture Outdoors Leadership Elective for the first time. It was really great to meet new, funny, and kind staff members who taught me what to do in the outdoors. We did activities, went outside, went hiking, and more! It was my favorite elective I have ever been to and probably always will be.
When I became a leader to help out the other students, it was great because I got the chance to teach them what to do and what not to do so I can be like the Venture Outdoors staff. Sometimes I think that some of the staff are my role models.

My great Uncle Billy told me about fishing, and I thought it sounded interesting. When I went to my first fishing trip at the Allegheny River with Venture Outdoors, I was happy. When I caught my first fish, it made me feel happy to catch one like my great uncle did. I told everyone in my family that I caught a small bass. The small mouth bass was 13 inch long. My family was proud of me, except my sister Leiah who thought it was gross to hold a fish by its mouth. It was great to have this feeling and to share it with you all. Seven of the other students caught fish, too.
If I have a family in the future, I would like to take them fishing so I can show them how I experienced fishing and see if they like it.
“John is an emerging outdoor enthusiast! He loves to share his passion for fishing and other outdoor activities with his mom, grandmom, and little sister.”
